History
The Marian Anderson Music Guild was organized in May 1970. It was an inspiration of Reverend Jesse Ferman Little who, with the assistance of Mr. Calvin Delp, formed the South Jersey branch of the national music organization. Other founding members included Ms. Isabella Collins, Mrs. Henrietta Robinson and Ms. Constance Berkshiener, who, at the time, was the 2nd Vice President of NANM.
On June 15, 1982, the organization received permission from Marian Anderson to use her name in support of its pursuits. At that time the South Jersey branch was renamed the “Marian Anderson Music Guild”. Many concerts, workshops and other events have been given to promote African American composers and musicians, to preserve the Negro Spiritual and to raise scholarships for aspiring musicians.
